The Collective Review

The Bleasedale’s have been quietly making wine in Langhorne Creek for several “Generations”, as the title of this wine alludes to. The winemaking is always consistent and delicious, and the wine has an annual habit of picking up some major wine gongs (to go alongside the 2024 James Halliday Winery of the Year award). Not only is it great value, but it’s also a delicious red to pair with a slow-roasted lamb shoulder that should set off the sensory fireworks.

And just like we thought - in late news to the table, the 2022 Generations Malbec has picked up the first of what will undoubtedly be many wine show gongs, notching up the coveted home-territory Champion Wine of Show award at the 2024 Langhorne Creek Wine Show. What a win!

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

What Bleasdale is doing with malbec is pretty remarkable. These are genuinely good wines, as neat as they are characterful. They are not, it’s probably worth saying, either overblown or underdone; they taste as though they’ve been picked optimally. Indeed the most generous thing about this wine is the asking price. It tastes of fragrant berries, red and black, rust, violets, peppercorn and cedar. It boasts firm, integrated tannin, infused here with licorice. It’s excellent, and it will mature over a long period.

Tasting Notes

The majestic red gums that surround Bleasdale are at the core of our remarkable history. When Frank Potts settled the land in the 1850s, he used the timber from these big, beautiful trees to build our winery. Our vineyards benefit from the rich, clay soils that also support these gums, giving generosity and longevity to our wines. The growth rings reflect the multitude of stories from past seasons and generations of family and growers alike. Bleasdale has been growing Malbec since the late 1800’s and produced the regions first Malbec table wine in 1961. This wine is dark purple with intense aromas of violets, blackberries, plums and clove spice. Drinking well now, but with the potential to be a long-term cellaring prospect if desired. It is normal for some sediment to form. Decanting one hour before drinking is recommended.
