De Bortoli have a long and proud history of creating quality wines. After migrating to Australia in 1920, the family’s involvement in the wine trade started in 1928 when Vittorio De Bortoli purchased a mix fruit farm. It was a healthy vintage in the Riverina with a surplus of Shiraz grapes, leaving fruit hanging on the vine. Vittorio collected the grapes from his neighbours for free and made his first wine, selling it the Italians and other Europeans working in the area, and De Bortoli Family Winemakers was born.

Today De Bortoli is one of the most successful family owned wineries in Australia across Victoria and New South Wales. They now own vineyards and wineries in a diverse range of regions, such as the Riverina, Rutherglen, Hunter Valley, King Valley, Heathcote and the Yarra Valley and make a wide range of styles. From fruity whites and reds from the Riverina, to the crisp whites and reds of the King Valley, big reds from Heathcote, fortified wines from Rutherglen, and classic Hunter Valley styles, De Bortoli have wines to suit every taste.

De Bortoli are also a wine company where experimentation with new varietals is in their DNA. They were one of the early movers into Italian varietals in the King Valley, such as Prosecco and Pinot Grigio, and are now firmly pushing alternate varieties, such as Pinot Blanc and Gamay in the Yarra Valley as well as Heathcote Tempranillo and Touriga Nacional.

However, for premium wine lovers, it is their Yarra Valley properties that hold the greatest promise. Steve Webber and wife Leanne De Bortoli are leaders in the modern, elegant and refined Yarra Valley style, particularly for Syrah and Chardonnay. These are graceful and more acid driven wines that are immensely food friendly styles, which fits the company’s ethos that all their wines should be made for the table.
