DESCRIPTION
  • Just in time for the Summer party season. Here is the Champagne that Fine Champagne Magazine declared was the number one Champagne of the last decade. An incredible feat, as it bested some of the biggest and most expensive names in the business. We are talking 2002 Krug Clos du Mesnil, 2002 Dom Perignon and Roederer Cristal, which were also-rans when compared to this wine.

    Sold in 3 x packs.

  • TASTING NOTES

    On the nose
The fruit emerges as delicate, golden, muted exotic fruits – mango and kiwifruit – and dried fruit – hazelnut, almond and fig. A touch of iodine enhances this wine’s flawless nose. The mild spices reflect the wine’s depth – white pepper, smoked tea and cocoa.

    On the palate
A wine with depth but also honed, precise, in harmony. Voluptuous delicacy with meringue notes. Subtle nuances evoke distant lands – mint tea, lime, kumquat and exotic fruits such as pineapple and candied ginger.

    WINEMAKING NOTES

A prestigious, classical prestige cuvee from 2002 vintage – structured, full-bodied and bursting with fruit. Elaborated with a majority of Chardonnays from the Montagne de Reims region (70%) and complemented with Pinot Noir (30%) from the same region, this wine is a blend of 17 crus which matured for over seven years in the House’s cellars. A 2002 vintage synonymous with richness and generosity.

"From an exceptional year, this wine has a remarkably light colour considering its age. Aromas of small flowers, tight, clean and crisp, with little cracked yeast character. A very refined wine, more bready and biscuity on the palate than the nose. Intense, focused and lively. A superb wine of great finesse and persistence, and a seamless texture. A complete and wonderful wine. (70/30 chardonnay to pinot noir, mostly from the Montagne de Reims -including the chardonnay)"
    98 Points Huon Hooke

"One of the greatest vintages of the past 25 years, producing wines of rare longevity and harmony. Ironically, it marked the early death of Daniel Thibault, who had transformed the quality of Piper-Heidsieck, This is 70% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir, its dosage of 11g/l justified by the high acidity of the vintage. It is spectacularly fresh, with white flower/citrus blossom aromas feeding into the perfectly balanced and harmonious palate."
