Rhum J.M Agricole Millesime 2004

Rhum J.M Agricole Millesime 2004

A delicate and complex Rhum Agricole, with plenty of character and interest. Wonderfully balanced, with fresh, herbaceous characters, underpinned by nutty spice. Outstanding.

DESCRIPTION
  • Rhum Agricole, sometimes just shortened to Rhum, is rum made from fresh sugar cane juice, rather than molasses. The result is a spirit that is much fresher and often expressing a herbaceous character, rather than the toffee/treacle notes often associated with normal rum from molasses. Rhum Agricole is definitely a sipping style, although it can also be used in some cocktails. Think of it like a fine Armagnac or Cognac.

The J.M distillery was founded by Jean Marie Martin and is located in the North of Martinique Island. Renowned for some of the most prestigious aged Agricole rums, the AOC Rhum Agricole de la Martinique restricts production to a short period during the cane season, to ensure only the best cane is used.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

    TASTING NOTES

Pure Rhum Agricole delicately aged 100% in re-charred bourbon barrels and allowed to naturally reduce before it is bottled at cask strength. The nose brings walnut cake, sugared figs and rich muscovado sugar, before saddle leather, tobacco leaf and some green chilli spice emerge. The rich palate is luscious with thick black treacle, gingerbread and orange peel and a complex sweetness. With a hint of old wood, there's touches of honey, vanilla and greengages in the backdrop. Freshly roasted coffee beans and a subtle herbaceous edge join the finish.
