The wine displays a gorgeous white gold colour enhanced by a continuous thread of tiny bubbles announcing a lively effervescence. The delicate nose exudes scents of butter and brioche. Flavours of almonds and hazelnuts mingle with refined fragrances of yellow fruits dominated by the freshness of citrus fruits (tangerines). Then the wine opens up with savours of nougat and pistachio nuts. On the palate, the attack is fresh and reveals a perfect balance between acidity and suppleness.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • In its 160 years of history, Pol Roger has carved out one of the best reputations in the select circle of the leading Champagne brands. This recognition is the fruit of the firm's unwavering dedication to two essential values: excellence and independence. Each of the wines which bears the Pol Roger name is treated as an impeccable ambassador of its history. For five generations, the family's descendants have been equally demanding; remaining loyal to the strategy initiated from the very beginning by the firm's founder. Excellence means the rigorous selection of the vinegrowers the firm works with, but also by strict selection of the grapes bought from them. Family members keep a close eye on all aspects of the operations, including details of the vinification; it also means that the family, in complete independence, chooses the blends which will become the final wines. Excellence and independence are closely linked. One guarantees the continuing existence of the other and vice versa

    ROGER VOSS - WINE ENTHUSIAST

This is the latest release of this legendary wine. A blend, although with a majority of Pinot Noir (Churchill's preference), the wine is rich, just beginning to show wonderful signs of maturity. It still has intense fruit along with the taut mineral texture that will allow the wine to age further. It is a standout Champagne from this vintage. Drink now, although this Champagne will age for many years.

HUON HOOKE - THE REAL REVIEW

Mid-yellow colour with a mellow, mature bouquet of toast and straw, nougat, fruit compote and dried fruits. A trace of quince paste. The palate is voluminous and rich, complex and refined, with some pinoty fatness and real generosity. It fills the entire mouth and lingers long on the farewell. An impressive, high-impact wine of real gravitas.

HUON HOOKE - THE REAL REVIEW

Two bottles were sampled, the first fresher and very vibrant; the second quite aldehydic and forward developed - still good today but its future would have been very suspect. First bottle was a very complex, wonderfully multi-dimensional wine with evidence of both pinot and chardonnay, smoky pinot taking the upper hand, hazelnutty and very elegant, with a long lingering farewell. A beautiful wine.

    STEPHEN REINHARDT - WINE ADVOCATE

Made in the very best vintages, Pol Roger's white-golden colored 2006 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill offers a very clear, precise, ripe and complex bouquet with fruity and refreshingly chalky, nutty and brioche notes. Full-bodied and complex on the palate, the 2006 is supple, round and rich but also fine, elegant, fresh and well structured. It has a harmonious yet tight, persistent and very promising finish that puts this silky textured, Pinot-dominated cuvée (the exact blend is a closely guarded family secret) on the border of fatty richness. But the mousse gives so much freshness and finesse that everything seems lifted here. Though I have very limited experience with matured Champagnes from Pol Roger and namely Churchill, I suppose the 2006 will benefit a lot from further bottle aging. But don't get me wrong: the wine is already gorgeous. Tasted June 2018, disgorged in June 2017.
