DESCRIPTION
  • Where the Merle Riesling is named after the matriarch, the E.W.P Shiraz is named after the patriarch, Edgar Walter Pike. This is an outstanding Clare Shiraz that showcases the best of what the region has to offer.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

    TASTING NOTES

Ripe blackberry, cherry and blueberry aromas with hints of spice, coffee grounds and graphite. Also some attractive grilled meat notes. The palate is full of ripe berries, chocolate and savory oak, backed up by silky tannins and balanced acidity that provide an excellent structure for graceful ageing.

  • REVIEWS

'Deeply coloured, this is a first class Clare Valley shiraz, its profound bouquet setting the scene for the medium to full-bodied palate, where blackberry, licorice and cedar flavours rest on a bed of velvety tannins. The power of the wine is deceptive, so perfect is the balance.'
    96 Points - Halliday's Wine Companion

'Far from shy and showing sweet, cedary oak to the hilt, with a serious concentration of dark fruit character. Smells like nougat, Reef Oil and cassis, and is powerful and seductive with slick texture and formidable length of flavour. It’s big, brutish in a way, but composed – a well crafted wine which offers the power and glory of fruit capability coupled to serious oak and winery work. Bold, formidable but good. Should cellar for a billion years too. On the verge of epic, for the style.'
93 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

'Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 The E.W.P. Shiraz is intensely scented of blackberry preserves, dried plums and cassis with underlying baking spice, incense, mocha and licorice hints. Medium to full-bodied with tons of ripe blackberry and spice flavor layers supported by rounded tannins and balanced acidity, it finishes with invigorating freshness and great persistence.'
