2012 Barringwood Recently Disgorged Blanc de Blanc

2012 Barringwood Recently Disgorged Blanc de Blanc

This is cool-climate Australian sparkling, making sense in terms of its Chardonnay makeup, while resounding with drinkability. Orchard fruits, nashi pear gelato and tangerine, all ringing with an urgency across saliva-inducing acidity and a whiff of brioche. Profound.

DESCRIPTION
  • The first vines at Barringwood’s original Lower Barrington vineyard were planted on the site of a working sawmill in 1993. At the time the total area under vine in Tasmania was around 280 hectares. In 2012 Vanessa and Neville Bagot were visiting Vanessa’s beloved home state from their home in Sydney when they were made aware that Barringwood Park Vineyard (as it was then called) was for sale. A single visit to the stunning site along with wine tasting captivated them, perhaps it is too simplistic to say they liked the wine so much they bought the vineyard, but it’s not too far from the mark. From the very first vintages Barringwood wines have gained acclaim and continue to do so. The vineyard has been awarded 5 stars by James Halliday for each of the past four years

A recent release of this exceptional sparkling wine was crafted from 100% pristine Chardonnay grapes using Methode Traditionelle, including 5 years lees age. It retains incredible freshness along with the understated complexity and finese of the world's finest Blanc de Blancs.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Crafted in Methode Traditionelle 100% pristine hand selected Chardonnay grapes were whole bunch-pressed, under went partial malolactic fermentation and batonnage in tank before bottling for secondary ferment.  Wine was aged on lees for 5 years and has minimal dosage.

    TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Pale straw with fine mousse and persistent bead. Gentle floral notes with a hint of seapray. Crisp lemon and delicate granny smith apples provide understated complexity.

  • REVIEWS

'This goes for the jugular, unleashing straight chardonnay across an astounding 5 years of lees ageing, equipped with a judicious dollop of 2g/l of dosage. This is cool climate Australian sparkling, making sense in terms of its makeup, while resounding with drinkability. Orchard fruits, nashi pear gelato and tangerine, all ringing with an urgency across saliva-inducing acidity and a whiff of brioche. Profound.'
