'A classy wine... what is a very pure and lovely chardonnay.'
96 Points - James Halliday

  • Established by the Smedley family, Mandala Wines is a five-star James Halliday-rated Yarra Valley winery located in Dixon's Creek. The Yarra Valley is one of the best regions in the world for producing Chardonnay, which is one of the few exceptional wines to reflect the specific land and climatic conditions into the taste of the wine. Charles Smedley and his team have worked passionately to do the reputation justice with his Chardonnay wines. Classic, balanced and truly Yarra Valley, this wine is named after the emblem of a Compass, meaning "four points lead to home".

Aromas of white peach and ripe pear, almond nougat and hints of vanilla and jasmine. Supported by stone fruit and fresh lemon-lime characters in the mouth, the finish is long and textural, displaying an exceptional natural acidity, pink grapefruit and well-integrated spicy French oak.

The Chardonnay fruit was hand-harvested, whole bunch pressed and split into two batches for low temperature fermentation in French oak barriques. The wine was matured for 16 months in 50% new French oak before blending and bottling. 12.5% alc/vol. This wine was rated 95 points by James Halliday.

'Hand-picked and sorted before whole bunch pressing to French oak for a cool ferment and 16 months maturation. A classy wine, still in the first flush of youth when 3yo; white peach is all important in establishing the parameters of what is a very pure and lovely chardonnay.'
