DESCRIPTION
  • Founded in 1933 Cave de Tain is located at the foot of the hill of Hermitage between Valencia and Lyon. The historic vineyard is a local co-op with over 300 grower-members and 1000 hectares of vineyards making it the main producer of wines in Northern Rhone Valley.

The Cave de Tain owns 21 hectares in the prestigious Hermitage appellation
, and covers  the diverse “terroirs “ of Hermitage, particularly on the so called “lieux-dits”: Les Bessards, Gros des Vignes, L’Hermite, Le Méal, Les Greffieux, La Beaume, Les Murets, La Croix, Les Signaux and l’Homme.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Terraced vines planted in fluvio-glacial alluvium over granite.

The grapes were given extended maceration time over a long and classic ferment. Running off when the wines are warm, directly into French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place, followed by a maturation period of about 18 months.

    TASTING NOTES

Black berry flavours melted with pepper, cumin, paprika, black olive, with delicate notes of wood, bacon and tobacco. The palate shows pleasant concentration, with a firm and ripe tannic structure. Full-bodied yet mellow, at the same time.

  • REVIEWS

'Another possibly outstanding effort, the 2013 Hermitage Classic (same élevage as the 2012) exhibits vibrant and juicy aromas and flavors of black cherries, raspberries, smoke and big minerality. This medium to full-bodied effort has bright acidity, notable tannin and a clean, focused finish. It should come together nicely once in bottle and drink well through 2025.'
    Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate

'Pretty magnificent ripe nose. Not deep, deep, deep – an approachable Hermitage. Still lots of tannin on the end but good healthy fruit.'
