Dog Point is an icon of New Zealand's most famous wine region Marlborough. Renowned for making impeccable wines from hand-picked, estate grown fruit, this sauvignon blanc is a brilliant example of their handy work. Intense aromas of tropical fruits combine with mineral and green citrus notes and a touch of oak. The palate is full bodied and stacked with concentrated citrus fruit flavours. A great partner to fish, poultry and vegetable dishes, or with aromatic white cheeses. Can be cellared for 2+ years.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • The name Dog Point dates back to the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district. These were the days where, due to a lack of fences, boundary riders used boundary keeping dogs to protect the local flocks of sheep. The winery is a partnership between Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healey. Fruit for their wines is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the early 1980s. These older well-established vines situated on free draining silty clay loams are supplemented with fruit from closely planted hillside vines on soils with a clay loam influence. The vines enjoy consistent sunshine, low rainfall and cool nights that enables enormous flavour progression. In every bottle of Dog Point Vineyard Wine is impeccable attention to detail and a thoughtful hands on approach. This focus is expertly partnered with a low interventionist ethos. Fruit is hand-picked from low cropped, estate grown vines, then hand crafted with great care to produce fine wines that are accessible and enjoyable with cellaring potential. The winemaking team consists of Murray Cook and Matthew Sutherland under the guidance of James and Ivan. The Dog Point range include the varieties that thrive in the region, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir as well as Chardonnay.

BOB CAMPBELL MW - THE REAL REVIEW

Complex Sauvignon Blanc showing great use of oak and nutty yeast lees which manage to add complexity without masking fruit character. Very textural wine with weight and a silken palate. Beautifully restrained reductive character adds a suggestion of minerality.

BOB CAMPBELL MW - THE REAL REVIEW

This oak fermented and matured Sauvignon Blanc has a cult following. It's Sauvignon Jim, but not as we know it! The oak is evident but reasonably subtle, allowing fruit, mineral, citrus and nutty lees character to take centre-stage. It contributes to the wine's rich and creamy texture. A complex wine with a beautifully restrained reductive character

    JAMES SUCKLING

A stunning experssion of sauvignon that marries complexity and purity to exalted effect. The nose is all tight-wound sulphides and grapefruit citrus, really breathtaking, lemon rind and lime leaf here too. The palate has a core of scintillatingly pure grapefruit citrus flavor, a wealth of fleshy textural presence and a core of fine, driving acidity. Terrific nutty nuanced resolve. Drink now.

    WINE SPECTATOR

Complex, supple and seductive, presenting an aromatic mix of honeysuckle, smoke, beeswax, lime blossom and chamomile notes that give way to ripe white peach, melon, green tea and lemon zest elements. Delivers fresh herbal details of lemon verbena and marjoram, finishing with crisp, clean acidity and lingering flavors. Drink now through 2020.

HUON HOOKE - THE REAL REVIEW

Light to medium, bright yellow colour, the bouquet loaded with smoky oak, which dominates. The wine is medium to full-bodied and quite rich, smooth textured and rounded, balanced in the mouth and very toothsome. Stacks of flavour, here. It has concentrated flavour, but the oak is a bit assertive, even at this age.

    STEPHEN TANZER - VINOUS

(14% alcohol; barrel-fermented and -aged, with lees stirring but no malolactic fermentation): Bright, pale yellow. Flinty, sulfidey reduction to the aromas of citrus, yellow fruits and smoky minerals. Large-scaled and rich, with sexy oak-driven sweetness to the deep flavors of yellow fruits, fresh herbs, minerals and spices. A very round big boy, with well-judged oak, harmonious acidity and excellent slowly building tactile length. This bottling is routinely one of the best barrel-aged Sauvignons from Marlborough.
