DESCRIPTION
  • A stalwart of the McLaren Vale wine industry, Geoff Merrill needs no introduction. Since his first vintage under the Geoff Merrill label in 1980, Geoff has been producing quality wines that consistently deliver.

This Cab Merlot blend comes off his Pimpala Vineyard, and sees an extended maturation in oak. A wine of intensity and complexity with plenty of oak nuance, it is drinking beautifully now after a few years of bottle age, but will certainly continue to develop over the next five years. Normally, a wine of this calibre would be in the $50 - $60 range (in fact, it's sold on Geoff's website for $55!), so at this price, it's an absolute steal!

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The 2013 vintage was a welcome return to a fairly ‘normal’ vintage. We had good winter and spring rains and only a small reduction in yield across a few varieties. The ripening period had a small heat ‘hiccup’ but the vines made it through unscathed and ripening continued extremely well enabling us to pick at full flavour ripeness.

85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. 26 months in American and French oak (20% new).

    TASTING NOTES

The colour is a dark red with great depth and density. The aroma shows delicate herbaceous notes initially, which open up to clean red berry fruits and toasty oak. The palate has both depth and strength, and fruit delicacy producing a complex wine with structure and longevity. Fine tannin, bright fruit and tensioned acidity join to create a food friendly wine that will provide great experiences now or well into the future.
