  • THE BRIEF
  • Certain names resonate strongly within the halls of Australian wine history. Jim Barry is one such name. It was Jim Barry's drive and community spirit that helped shape South Australia's Clare Valley as a benchmark producer of world class Riesling and cemented its place as one of Australia's premier wine regions.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • A challenging vintage for the vineyard with an extremely dry growing and ripening season favouring smaller and open canopies. The upside is that the fruit displayed very small and open bunches with good exposure allowing the development of intense flavour and colour. Careful selection of only healthy fruit with no shrivel at harvest produced a wine with dense ripe purple fruits and very fine elegant tannins.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

This wine is a deep crimson red in the glass. Intensely aromatic with a mix of dark vine fruits, dark chocolate, fresh garden herbs, cedar oak and a touch of earth. The palate is flooded with generous dark berry flavours with savoury notes of earth, clove and cedar. Very fine, mineralic tannin lends length and style to a wine of great presence and persistence. The Benbournie has been created with the Jim Barry philosophy to be enjoyed upon release after a period of long term cellaring (under correct conditions) to enhance the wine's qualities.

  • WHO MADE IT?

GARY WALSH - THE WINE FRONT

Here’s a seductive and rich chocolaty wine layered with peppermint and baking spices, and ripe black fruit... It’s very good.
