A trophy-holding, gold-medal-winning, Eden Valley Riesling with a lovely bit of age on it.
This absolute gem from Neil McGuigan is really hitting its stride - drinking beautifully now, it still has plenty in the tank if you like really aged whites. With its pedigree and recent accolades, you could expect to pay upwards of $30. So to have the chance to get your hands on some beautiful, aged Riesling at under $20, is an absolute steal.
Don't miss this one.
The McGuigan Shortlist Riesling is a perfect example of a top Eden Valley Riesling. The fruit for this wine comes from two vineyards in the Eden Valley Region, with the warm sunny days allowing flavour ripening while the cool nights help retain natural acids in the fruit to allow for the Rieslings great ageing ability. The grape must was chilled on arrival and immediately pressed lightly in an air bag press to minimise bruising. The juice was then fermented cool to retain natural aromas and the wine lightly fined and clarified before bottling. This wine will comfortably cellar for 10+ years. In total, this wine has won 2 trophies and 15 Gold Medals on the wine show circuit. The most recent win was a trophy and gold medal at the 2019 International Wine Challenge in London!
Lime with complex kerosene notes and linear mineral structure. The palate is focused up front, broadening at the finish with a wonderful citrus burst. Really fresh for an aged white.

INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE - REGIONAL TROPHY
Lovely herbal, lime blossom, pink florals. Leave dry with herbals, rose and jasmine. Great grippy frame. Quiet and understated but very well done.
JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
Quartz-white; this is a particularly finely boned riesling, with enough of the skeletal framework to ensure the lemon blossom aromas and lemon flavours will burst into song a few years down the track. The low alcohol provides the freshness evident today, and most unlikely to dissipate in anything less than 10 years, when even better things will be in store.
DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS 2018 - SILVER
Very toasty smokey nose, white peach, apricot, toast and petrol hints. Savoury palate, grilled nut, marzipan, lime zest acidity, floral finish.
