    If there is ever a wine to knock over the Tyrrell's crown for wine with most show bling, it's the 2013 Isabella Rose from Sidewood in the Adelaide Hills. Its festooned with medals, trophies, reviews and scores, all of them positive and glowing. This is serious sparkling territory, and it is a wine that you should undoubtedly be getting acquainted with.

    Made by winemaker extraordinaire, Darryl Caitlin, who spent many years working as the chief winemaker at local Adelaide Hills legend Shaw + Smith before his time at Sidewood, it is a Rose of immediate impact and skilled craftsmanship. It FILLS the room with a coterie of rose flowers, alpine strawberries, biscotti and lemon peel. It is an explosion of flavours, and has the power to linger in the mouth for minutes. As a blend of predominantly Pinot, you can expect the usual red berried flavours, but its the time-spent resting on its lees (some up to 54 months) that give this bubbles its real impact. 


    A blend of 40% Chardonnay (B95, B76, G9V7) and 60% Pinot Noir (MV6 114, 115, and 777). Adelaide Hills grapes were gently pressed off and free run taken. The juice was fermented in stainless steel, with full malolactic fermentation. The wine was fermented in bottle with special attention paid on maintaining the wines natural acidity. This wine spent a minimum 46 months on yeast lees before being disgorged


    With a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay this sparkling wine displays lifted aromas of fresh strawberries, red cherry and peach and is beautifully complemented by notes of brioche and biscotti. Pale blush pink in colour this wine identifies finesse with an attractive mousse, fine bed and soft creamy palate. Simply serve chilled.

The palate is equally attractive, displaying excellent mid palate weight and silky texture, wonderfully complemented by pristine fruit flavours as well as seductive savoury notes.     '40% chardonnay and 60% pinot noir, or vice versa, both figures supplied, traditional method, 30 months on lees. A word of warning about the gold medals on the bottle: several are of the kind that make the public justifiably wary of wine show gold medals (the awards received were a trophy, a double-gold, and five gold medals). The dosage here is well balanced, the red fruit echoes also more comforting.'

    'A blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%) the wine is named after the owners daughter and has seen a minimum of two years on lees prior to disgorgement. A pretty burnt orange to pink hue in the glass with a fine persistent bead that only comes from Methode Traditionelle. The nose combines rich brioche and and creamier notes alongside wild strawberry, citrus and fresh flowers. The palate has great balance with a line of red apple and citrus inspired acidity a constant. There is a return of the strawberry notes with some biscuity complexity that leads into a long, lemon zest dominant finish. Drinking well now, but as a vintage sparkling this has plenty of potential to age well over the medium term.'
