  • THE BRIEF
  • Arlewood has been a Margaret River producer since 1984. In 2009 Arlewood moved its headquarters to the cooler subregion of Forest Grove 10km south of the Margaret River township. The cooler site produces wines that are elegant, fragrant and complex. Arlewood is a small grape grower (single vineyard and dry-grown) and a Wiltshire sheep farm owned and operated by the Gosatti family producing only 3,500 cases a year. In 2017 they won James Halliday's Dark Horse Winery of the Year, reflecting the unique site and quality of small batch wines.

Arlewood's flagship La Bratta range pays homage to the Italian village of La Bratta in Northern Italy where Garry's mother was born, and his grandfather and great grandfather were grape growers for the local community winery.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

The wine is a sumptuous mix of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Touriga Nacional & Cabernet Sauvignon, each of which plays its role in bringing harmony to the glass. An intensely aromatic and ever-evolving wine. Perfect for long cellaring or long dinners!

JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

Largely estate-grown on the Forest Grove Vineyard, a blend of cabernet franc, merlot, touriga nacional and cabernet sauvignon, matured for 24 months in new and used French barriques.'

CAMPBELL MATTINSON - THE WINE FRONT

It's a characterful red with a layer of coffee-cream oak on a mid-weight serve of redcurrant, boysenberry and blackcurrant. Bay leaf notes provide lift and there's an undergrowthy, slightly gamey character too, with accompanying firm/dry tannin. Oak is slightly too rich in the context of the wine but it feels like it's all still bedding itself down; you'd imagine given another couple of years in bottle that everything will be in better harmony. But there's no issue with the general quality here; it's a good wine.'
