DESCRIPTION
  • Shiraz is a great tradition in McLaren Vale, dating back to the 1850’s. Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is produced from a single vineyard at Coriole, planted in 1919, with the first wine released in 1989. The soil and roots are extremely deep with generally no irrigation required. The wine is matured in French oak for approximately 18 months and then receives 18+ months in bottle before release. Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is one of Langton’s Classified Wines of Australia.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The 2014 vintage was locally described as the holiday vintage; ripening was slow and we had plenty of time to do what we wanted whenever we wanted. Maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration! The wines from the 2014 vintage turned out very well with plenty of colour, flavour and richness along with characteristic Coriole restraint.

This is our signature wine and is a perfect addition to the cellar of any serious wine collector. The production of Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is small, ranging from 300-500 dozen depending on the season.

    TASTING NOTE

Luscious and layered aromas of black fruit, roasted spices, dark chocolate & a subtle note of marzipan. The palate is deliciously complex with intense fruit; plum, boysenberry & rhubarb. An elegant wine with great balance and restrained use of oak. A thoroughly concentrated and textured wine that will confidently cellar for the next 10-20 years.

  • REVIEWS

'It's easy to be seduced by the beautiful deep purple colour but it's the flavours, the palate that really matter. They star in this complex wine. Savoury toned, full-bodied, ripe and concentrated and yet, there's this line of definition and detail. The oak, sitting at 30% new French hogsheads, is seamlessly integrated. '
96 Points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday's Wine Companion

'Deep red colour with a faint tinge of purple. The bouquet is mellow and earthy, developed and savoury, the palate very intense and concentrated, powerful, lively and long. The tannins are emphatic but balanced. An excellent wine, built to age. '
    95 Points - Huon Hooke

'I’m not a great fan of 2014 for Shiraz in McLaren Vale, but Coriole have turned out a good one here. Black fruit, dark mint chocolate, nougat, earth and a little spice, with oak in support, rather than taking centre stage. Medium to full bodied, inky and dark, that wonderful ferrous character running through its veins, fleshy grainy tannin, almost a boysenberry sweetness, and a rumble of earthy bass on a long finish. Really good. Authentic. Age-worthy. '
