Established in 1965, Forest Hill is the oldest cool-climate vineyard in Western Australia. Family owned, the dry grown vineyards produce wines that are a true reflection of the unique site in the Mount Barker region of the Great Southern. Expressing the regional and varietal characters, the Forest Hill wines display elegance, purity and persistence.
The range of Block wines are made from small, carefully selected parcels of the best old vine fruit from the Forest Hill Property including the original 1965 vines. Cane pruned and hand harvested, these special blocks are very low yielding due to age and relying only on natural rainfall. If the vintage proves to be challenging for any reason, Forest Hill will not make a Block wine that season. The Block wines are powerful yet refined and elegant, and will reward cellaring.
The Best fruit from our oldest Cabernet Sauvignon sites was handpicked into crates before being de-stemmed, crushed and chilled into closed fermenters and inoculated. The ferments were pumped over with aeration twice a day; temperature was held around 25C. Total time on skins of 21 days. The wine was then pressed to new and used French barriques for Malolactic fermentation, allowing a soft integration of the grape and oak tannins. The wine was blended, fined with egg whites and bottles after 18 months maturation.
Dark red with purple hues. A bouquet of blackcurrant, graphite and cinnamon followed by tobacco and dark chocolate. Vibrant red & blue fruits on the palate with characters of nutmeg and cloves. Silky tannins and long finish.
Forest Hill holds a firm place in Western Australian wine industry history as it is the oldest cool climate vineyard in the Great Southern region. This family owned winery was founded in 1965 by Tony and Betty Pearse when the vineyard was planted with Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. Forest Hill passed through the hands of the late Robert Holmes a Court before ending up with its current owners, the Lyons family. Today, the 95 hectares of vineyards are planted to varietals such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. All wines are made from estate grown fruit by winemaker Liam Carmody, who has been with Forest Hill since 2008. The goal is to produce wines with correct varietal definition whilst expressing the distinct regional character of the Great Southern region.

Made from the best fruit from the oldest ('75) plantings, hand-picked, destemmed to closed fermenters, with twice daily aerative pumpovers temperature controlled to 25 degrees C, matured in new and used French barriques for 18 months. As expected, a high quality cabernet in every way; only medium-bodied, but beautifully nuanced and poised, blackcurrant fruit, bay leaf, oak and fine - almost silky - tannins.
Darker berries, blue fruits, cedary notes and fresh cigar tobacco, as well as some leafy and herbal nuances. The palate has a punchy core of dark-fruit flavors with a long, dense and chewy chain of tannins carrying them long into the finish. Drink or hold.
