This wine is green and vibrant in appearance. As a young wine the aroma was zesty lemon and grapefruit with a hint of dried green herb and spice. These aromas have now been overlaid with gentle toast and spice from the ensuing years in bottle. The palate is lively and generous, with intense citrus fruit flavours and hints of talc, sage oil and lemongrass. The wine finishes clean and dry with refreshing acidity.
When Robert Hill-Smith, proprietor of Yalumba, joined forces with Clare winemaker extraordinaire, Jeffrey Grosset, to create a new Eden Valley Riesling, it was clear that this would be no ordinary wine. Born of occasional musings, the essence of the adventure is two of Australia's best known Riesling makers working together to elevate the status of both Riesling and Eden Valley. This project also offers a forum in which both winemakers can share ideas, debate and discuss.
