'Everything is beautifully integrated and yet you can feel and appreciate the positive effect of whole bunches, oak and spice-shot tannin. This isn't your standard fare. It's measured, composed, lively and exquisitely well balanced.'
95 Points - James Halliday
If you love supple, smooth shiraz then this wine's for you.
Handmade in every sense of the word, Stephanie's 4 acre (1.7hectare) shiraz is exclusively from her Alexander Vineyard, a beautiful site just to the north-east of the Watervale township, at the foot of Mount Horrocks.
Made with a very traditional winemaking approach: 100% handpicked and partial whole bunch foot crushed, with the balance cold soaked on skins and fermented in purpose-built vessels which allow gentle plunging of the cap to extract maximum colour, flavour and tannins. It then spends 18 months in 40% new French oak barriques.
Deep dark crimson. Voluptuous dark fruits, mocha coffee and sweet spice.Juicy rich red fruits wrapped in a velvety cloak of fine oak, all spice, black fruit, seamless tannin and a succulent finish. Polished and poised yet primed to cellar to 2030 or beyond.
'A complex array of flavours, textures and tangs. Everything is beautifully integrated and yet you can feel and appreciate the positive effect of whole bunches, oak and spice-shot tannin. This isn't your standard fare. It's measured, composed, lively and exquisitely well balanced.'
95 Points - James Halliday
'The oak is certainly obvious, the style certainly plush. Neither of these aspects are really the norm for Mount Horrocks, which generally tends towards the savoury. But this 2014 release isn't your 'usual' Mount Horrocks Shiraz. This is deeper and richer, with the firmness to match. It's a wine of some standing, so to speak. Some command. The oak €“ smoky and raw €“ feels quality, as indeed does the fruit. Give it some time, and it will shine.'
94 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
'A remarkable gentle and subtle shiraz from the Clare Valley. About 12 per cent was whole-bunch foot crushed. The result is a brilliantly smooth and supple wine, displaying great concentration and refinement in a compelling combination. It's so silky and textured. This is a classy wine.'
95 Points - Ray Jordan
'This certified organic wine brings a more subtle approach to Clare Shiraz than many others. With great control of the fragrance, terrific integration and balance in the oak treatment, the shiraz remains clear-headed, encouraged by brighter, crimson fruit characters, juiciness and drinkability in a medium to full-bodied structural package.'
95 Points, Tony Love (Top 100 Wines of 2016)
