  • The great Chardonnay's of yesteryear have made a very triumphant return in this unparalleled Mystery Wine deal. This is Chardonnay from the big-end of town, inspired by the time when Leeuwin Estate, Scarborough and the old Rosemount Roxburgh estate Chardonnay's were the thing du jour.

    Sourced from a single-vineyard, super-premium estate in the Wilyabrup sub-region of the Margaret River, this is the absolute flagship white wine released by this very esteemed winery. Normally retailing for an eye-watering $80 a bottle (with its almost magnum sized, no-expense spared bottle and individually numbered packaging pointing to its grandiose desires) My Wine Guy has landed this wine for an incredible $34.99 in 6/packs.

    But like all good things, and in order to protect the indentity of the winery in question, we are going to have to keep the label completely secret until it lands on your doorstep. For this kind of saving, it is hard to believe you can get the ultimate sun-drenched, old-school Margaret River Chardonnay experience, but without the hefty price-tag that comes with this regions most prominent icon wines.

    Made by the former winemaker of Leeuwin Estate (who crafted many of the wines that put the region's Chardonnay on the map) this is an absolute, no-stone-left-unturned flavour packet. It's got layers of vanilla slice, brioche, honey and cashew, grapefruit and woodsmoke. The colour is deep and golden, the palate long, voluminous and still lively with youthful acidity. For a wine of just four years age, it's got a long life ahead of it, but be warned, this is no modern, piercing acids, citrusy driven can't-tell-if-it's-chardonnay-or-pinot-gris style of wine, it's a bruiser, the kind of 'nay that seems to have alluded the attention of most modern Australian winemakers. And yet, as we all well know, people love and cherish this kind of wine.

    With 97 points from Ray Jordan, 95 from Huon Hooke, it is also a highly acclaimed wine, so with a saving of $45 per bottle, you are in for an absolute treat if you grab yourself a case of this wine. Just 220 dozen of this wine are made, and we only have a small handful, so we suggest you act fast to avoid disappointment.


    Hand picked fruit, using only the finest, most perfect bunches from the best block on the estate. Fruit is settled and chilled overnight, then pressed gently to tank. Fermentation in the finest French oak barrels takes place under temperature controlled conditions, in order to retain freshness and liveliness. Only then are the best barrels selected in order to be bottled under this flagship wine.

    Still youthful. Delicate, lifted floral notes with orange blossom, honey, nutmeg and stone fruit providing the lighter side, while toasted nougat and spiced vanilla oak gives the undertones. On the palate there are early shades of lemon/lime, nectarine and peach, then a deep, lingering creamy mid-palate which has tones of honey, butterscotch and toast.
