It has a fresh, gently savoury, edge to black fruits and fine-grained tannins. It has also taken the oak into the folds of its fruits in convincing fashion.'

A mystery deal of this calibre, we've been yearning for all year.
Clare Valley Shiraz, made by one of the regions most celebrated winemakers, under the guise of his side-hustle and recently acquired Skilly Valley based winery (his other job is as chief winemaker of one of South Australia's most highly regarded brands).
In a few short years, the winery has garnered some pretty incredible accolades, including one of the 10 best new wineries in James Halliday's Wine Companion 2017.
This Shiraz, there pinnacle release from the lineup, is sourced from a 63 year old, dry-grown vineyard, just north of the Clare Valley township. It is hand-picked, and given the absolute rolls-royce treatment with extended time on skins, and maturation in the finest French oak. Destined to live another 12-15 years, this wine is the equal to some of the other great wines of the region like the Tim Adams Aberfeldy or Jim Barry McRae Wood. Along the way, the wine has notched up an impressive 96 Points from the Halliday Wine Companion, and also 94 points from The Wine Front.
An ultimately cellarable star, this is has personality in spades, and with a saving of almost $150 a six pack, its both a sure-fire hit and absolute bargain at the same time. Get it now, before the stock disappears.
A hand picked, single vineyard cuvee’ from a vineyard just north of the Watervale township. This dry grown, 63 year old vineyard always delivers, its small yields and compact berries an infused compote of dark fruits, black cherries, hints of fresh liquorice as well as supportive French oak intertwined with fine grained tannins and a long finish. Fermented on skins for 10 days, basket pressed, aged in a selection of new and seasoned French oak casks for 18 months prior to being bottling un-fined and unfiltered. Will continue to improve for a further 12 – 15 years.
'Hand-picked from a single vineyard in Watervale planted '55, fermented on skins for 10 days, matured in French hogsheads (35% new). Deep colour, although not as dense as Spring Gardens; a high quality shiraz that is, relatively speaking, light on its feet. It has a fresh, gently savoury, edge to black fruits and fine-grained tannins. It has also taken the oak into the folds of its fruits in convincing fashion.'

'Woodvale Shiraz, stepped up a gear. That extra something. It’s much like the ‘standard’ shiraz in its flavour profile but there’s an extra lob of (well integrated) oak and extra push to the finish. It’s a better wine. It tastes of boysenberry, blackberry, dense plum and asphalt, with elements of clove, violet and gum leaf prettying up the edges. Tannin swerves confidently through the back palate and out through the finish, drawing flavour with it. Impeccable.'
