  • Tenuta Ulisse was founded by two brothers in 2006 and they have delivered on their mission to bring the coastal Italian region’s unique brilliance to the masses at affordable prices. Antonio Ulisse artfully transforms estate-grown grapes into a sensuous, concentrated expression of the Abruzzo terroir; one that’s marked by fruit-forward elegance and full-bodied balance.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

    The fruit comes off 30-35 year old vineyards selected in the Lanciano area. The climate here is characterized by high temperatures all year round, with very little rainfall and a wide diurnal temperature range. The soils are predominantly alkaline, calcareous, with a clay surface layer. After a warm spell, leading to some over-ripening, the fruit was harvested very quickly, then crushed and left to macerate on skins for 15 days. Controlled fermentation was carried out at 24-26°C, with the wine then going into new oak barriques for 9 months.

    TASTING NOTES

    Bold and structured. Rich and robust. This wine has loads of concentrated black fruit - plum, raisin, dark boysenberry and tones of smoked meat. Plenty of tannin, lashings of oak and a good backbone of acidity complete this wonderfully full-bodied wine.

    'The depth of its impenetrable purple-bluish are visually staggering. The sense of smell is pervaded by the sweetness of the fruit, a thick mantle of blackberry pulp and sweet oak, which reach expressive persuasions as clean as intact, floral, clear. The extract is maximally concentrated, and its majestic, dense, tannic apex is balanced by the softness, the vivid gustatory acidity and the pulpy native grape, able to compose a flavour of perfect roundness and souplesse. The aroma and taste integrity is absolutely shining, as well as the gloriously juicy and archetypically considerable raw material.
