Generous nose with jammy notes of white fruit, evolving towards bitter orange. The attack is delicate, the wine then develops superb power with notes of fresh pineapple. The palate is full-bodied with well-integrated wood. Well-balanced and concentrated, the finish is long and lingering.
Bright, with white peach, acacia, honeysuckle and yellow apple notes that give this a fresher profile than most of its peers, picking up candied lemon and grapefruit peel accents through the racy finish. A tasty, smaller-scale version for drinking in the near term. Drink now through 2027. 6,000 cases made.
JANE ANSON - DECANTER MAGAZINE
Less botrytised grapes go into Carmes than into the grand vin, and this majors on sweet apricot and caramel flavours. It could do with a touch more bite, but is very pleasurable. Vinified in barrel but with no new oak.
ROGER VOSS - WINE ENTHUSIAST
Spice, honey and botrytis are the dominant characteristics of this full wine. The acidity comes later, hints of citrus and lemon curd. It is still young and developing but has good potential. Drink from 2022.
