  • To the north of Guebwiller, Saering faces east and southeast at an altitude of 260 to 300. Saering marl/limestone/sandstone terroir brings out the best in this magnificent, fine, delicate Riesling. The grapes are handpicked and whole bunches are pressed. There is static settling of the lees. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled tuns, followed by rising on the less for 8 months.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Bright golden yellow colour with green reflections of good intensity. The nose is pleasant and intense, with fresh and fruity scents : citrus fruits, lemon zest, lime and white flowers, and a very noble mineral and smoky touch. The palate is ample and round. The range of flavours is similar of that of the nose, still dominated by citrus fruits : lemon zest, yuzu, clementine, blood orange, white flowers and this superb mineral and smoky definition. The finish has a good length, and a frank liveliness. Typical of its terroir, the balance of this wine is slender and precise.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Domaines Schlumberger is a family vineyard established in 1810. Nowadays, it is run by two generations working side by side for a better handover: Alain Beydon-Schlumberger, 6th generation, Séverine and Thomas Schlumberger, 7th generation. All of their wines are estate-grown and produced on site. With an exceptional location, situated on the steep hillsides of the Vosges, the vineyard benefits from the best exposures; Its slopes can reach 50°. Because of the Vineyard’s topography and the soil composition the yields are much lower than average for the region : 45 hl/ha for the entire Domaine. Even today, all vineyard work is carried out with teams of horses, who can navigate the steep slopes. 30 hectares are farmed biodynamically, to ensure great quality wines for the future generations.

    WINE ENTHUSIAST

Zesty notions of lime peel have a fruity, riper touch of red apple about them. It is these apple flavors that become very expressive and aromatic on the dry concentrated palate. There is lovely midpalate texture that has something of citrus pith about it, while lemon freshness is the central structural element. There is something solid and honest about this.

Very citrusy and herbal with a hint of wild berries. This is a sleek and tightly wound dry riesling with a serious acidity structure for the hot vintage. If that sounds good to you, this wine has a lot to give right through the long mineral finish. Drink or hold.
