  • Kate Goodman began her wine journey nearly three decades ago. After honing her craft at wineries in South Australia, Western Australia, France, Spain and the U.S., Kate eventually moved to the Yarra Valley in 2000 and fell in love with the region she now calls home. In 2012, Kate opened her own winery and Goodman Wines was born.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Sourced from the mature Willowlake Vineyard, in the elevated upper Yarra Valley, the cool growing conditions combined with the influence of red volcanic soils provide the perfect base for growing Chardonnay grapes with impressive line and length. In the winery, the grapes were gently whole-bunch pressed, prior to cold settling. The juice was racked with light lees to French oak for natural fermentation.

    TASTING NOTES

The 2015 Goodman Chardonnay has notes of white peach, hazelnuts, grapefruit and spice. The palate is fine and restrained driven by a line of juicy acidity and balanced by a textural core. Long, and lean on the finish but with a core of juicy flavour and fine subtle oak characters for balance.

  • REVIEWS

'From the Willowlake Vineyard, hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, wild-fermented and matured in French oak (20% new), no mlf. Layered and rich, ripe citrus - Meyer lemon and a whisk of grapefruit - white peach and creamy cashew flavours all coming to the party with the first stages of bottle development. Ready soonish, but will, of course, hold.

'Ripping wine. No question about it. Powerfully aromatic and powerfully flavoured. Cashew, white peach, grapefruit, lactose and honeysuckle-like notes. It’s chardonnay on the charge, in many ways, though it calms and balances through the back half of the wine. Beautiful.'

'Light to medium yellow colour, with a cashew nut and almond-like, quite strongly oak-kissed bouquet. The wine is delicate, light-bodied and soft in the mouth, with refined grapefruit and lemon flavours. It's fruit-driven, restrained and seems almost a little straightforward in the mouth.'
