  • Established in 1980, Martinborough Vineyard is an iconic, pioneering producer of Martinborough with a commitment to the perfection of Pinot Noir. The first winery to plant Pinot Noir grapes in the famed region, today it is home to the oldest vines in the district. Artisan winemaking techniques, along with dedication to land preservation, and sharing a legacy of wine knowledge with future generations, has earned Martinborough Vineyard a continuous reputation for excellence.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Warm days, cool nights and low rainfall give rise to a longer ripening season, perfect for increasing depth of flavor. Cool, breezy springs, bring natural low yields and more intense fruit flavors. Mild summers with temperatures rarely above 30°C (86°F); gradually turn into dry autumns with cool night temperatures resulting in ideal conditions for slow even ripening.
Martinborough Vineyards are low cropped and hand-tended, yielding approximately 300 tonnes of fruit annually and exclusively grown in the Martinborough appellation using a biological farming method. This method promotes healthy soils which in turn produce healthy vines, more resistant to disease and insects.

    TASTING NOTES

Aromas of tropical fruit intertwine with notes of citrus, toast and popcorn that bring to mind the characteristics of great Chardonnay. Careful use of new oak has created a wine that is finely grained and focused, yet shows power, depth of flavour and a lovely mineral core.

  • REVIEWS

'A complex, adventurous and quite stylish chardonnay with obvious reductive struck flint and mineral characters with ripe peach and nectarine, brioche and classy oak characters. A complex wine supported by good acidity that helps to drive an impressively lengthy finish.'

'Bright, even, straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues, paler on the edge. The nose is elegantly presented with gentle breadth and depth of ripe white and yellow stonefruits along with subtle notes of nutty oak and lees, entwined with mealy nuances and creamy barrel-ferment suggestions. A little toasty and smoky detail adds complexity. Medium-full bodied, the palate gas vibrant and gently rich flavours of white and yellow stonefruits along with mealy complexities, entwined with nutty oak and creamy barrel-ferment suggestions and smoke. The flavours form an elegantly concentrated core. The mouthfeel is fresh and bright with lively acidity, and the wine flows easily along a very fine-textured line, leading to a tight, concentrated, lingering finish with stoonefruits and complexing mealy and nutty notes. This is an elegant, but vibrant and lively complex Chardonnay with stonefruit, mealy and nutty flavours on a fresh, fine-featured palate.'
