' When it’s done well, as it is here, its company is such a pleasure. This tastes of pencil shavings and tobacco, chocolate and blackcurrant, with mint and mulberry.'

Welcome to the big league. This is Yarra Cabernet of the utmost finesse made by one of the most talented winemakers in the region. It’s still one of the unsung varieties of the Yarra but this cool climate Cabernet is one for the long haul. The 864 range represents the very pinnacle of Oakridge winemaking and are critically acclaimed and very collectable. This displays curranty aromas with notes of cedar and vanillin oak before a palate of black fruit and toasty oak. It’s structured with even tannins before a cedary persistence on the finish.
All grapes hand harvested and sorted prior to gently de-stemming to fermenter. After a four day cold maceration, fermentation commenced and peaked at 30°C. Pump-over were conducted twice per day, and post ferment, the wine remained on skins for an additional 4 weeks prior to pressing. The wine then spent 15 months in French oak barrels maturing before blending and bottling.
Growing Conditions: 864 Single Block Release - Situated in Australia’s Yarra Valley, Oakridge has been producing quality wine since 1978. Vintage: A warm, dry early season with ideal flowering conditions has resulted in excellent crops and strong varietal flavours. Flowering occurred in late October, fruit set in December and harvest on March 1st at 13.3⁰Baume.
'Single Block. Winery Block. Yarra Valley floor. Vines planted in 1994. And here we enter the wonderful medium-bodied world of Yarra Valley Cabernet. When it’s done well, as it is here, its company is such a pleasure. This tastes of pencil shavings and tobacco, chocolate and blackcurrant, with mint and mulberry as complexing agents. It’s a wine of calm assurance. It sheets tannin throughout in assertive fashion. The best course of action is to cellar it for 5+ years.'
