  • THE BRIEF
  • Fiano dates back to the days of Roman viticulture. Inspired by the Italian heritage of the King Valley region, a small parcel was planted at Mt Bellevue Estate vineyard near the tiny hamlet of Myrrhee. The vineyard is perched high on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The 2015 vintage shows excellent flavour and good natural acidity

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • Made with minimal intervention, the fruit was gently pressed immediately after harvest and then allowed to ferment, using wild yeast. The wine then spent six months on full yeast lees in older French oak with regular batonnage to add even greater texture. A splash of Garganega, another Italian variety, was added to the final blend to provide yet another layer of interest to this intriguing wine.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Pale straw in colour with gold tints. Lifted aromas of lemon and lime marmalade, custard apple and glacé pineapple with underlying notes of fennel, fresh Thai basil and nettle. The palate enters with generosity and finishes with zesty freshness. Flavours of lemon-lime, grapefruit pith, pear and fresh basil are underscored by a chiselled mineral texture. Complementing the fresh acidity is a subtle custard cream texture, which lingers on the finish. Serve with duck rillette and burnt butter sage gnocchi.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Established in 2005 by the Hill-Smith family, Redbank Victoria specialises in ultra-cool climate wines from the valleys of Eastern Victoria. The vineyards are nestled in the high country of the Victorian alpine region as well as the King Valley, and some select vineyards in Beechworth. The winemakers and viticulturists work closely with a dedicated team of carefully selected independent growers. These small family-run vineyards offer unique and subtle soil and altitude differences that provide Redbank's winemakers with an opportunity to create distinctive wines reflecting the finest attributes of the region. Winemaker Marc van Halderen and viticulturist Nick Dry have a simple philosophy: great wine is made in the vineyard. Together, they craft wines from varieties such as Moscato, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz into styles ranging from aromatic, low alcohol summer whites through to spicy, plummy reds.
