Sam Miranda is the third generation of a prominent winemaking family who moved from Italy to Australia in the 1930s. Originally based in Griffith, Sam finally realised his dream in 1996, when he moved to the King Valley to take up a winemaking position at Miranda Wines.
Today, Sam makes his wines to reflect the true style of the King Valley. He has an affinity with the area given its strong Italian heritage, and he continues this tradition through growing and producing quintessential Italian varieties such as Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Arneis.
Every bit of loving care has gone into this wine. Sourced from 8 individually selected rows from our Myrrhee vineyard that were treated with kid gloves. Handpicked and fermented in new 700 Lt French Oak rotating barrels for 8 weeks on skins before being pressed and gravity fed back into the same barrels for 12 months maturation in the cellar door. A wine that is all about the wonderful textures and tannins of this noble variety.
Our second release of our single vineyard 'Myrrhee' Sangiovese. Displaying typical savoury and dark cherry characteristics with fine earthy tannins. Gentle handling from harvest to bottling with minimal intervention in the process. The finished wine is unfiltered with its soul intact.
JANE FAULKNER - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
A chameleon of a wine - at first all upfront spiced cherries and plums, then moves into a savoury spectrum with roasted coffee beans, warm earth and wood spices. Fleshy, just shy of full-bodied, with Sangiovese's acidity and tannins neatly meshed with the oak.'
