2015 Stella Bella Suckfizzle Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

2015 Stella Bella Suckfizzle Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Always a regional tour de force, this has high quality Graves written all over it; not merely fermented in French oak (60% new), but aged as well (40% new) for 14 months, with incremental batonnage to amplify the compelling textural detail. A citrus choir with the focus on lemon: lemon grass, lemon curd and ripe Meyer, all soaring along a balancing beam of vanilla cream oak. This is world class, transcending the general malaise when it comes to these oft-abused varieties.

DESCRIPTION
  • Stella Bella’s five distinctive vineyards are located throughout southern Margaret River. An area of the region chosen for its cool climate and ability to produce elegant, aromatic and medium bodied wines with personality and precision. Their farming practices aim to improve soils and maintain vine health. This gives them the ability to make subtle changes, responding to the season and surrounding environment. Creating fruit that reflects the climate, soil and character of southern Margaret River. In the pursuit of vine balance, they use respectful techniques such as organic fertilisers, mid-row cropping, spring plantings of buckwheat and minimal chemical inputs. All of these practices help with nutrient cycling and encourage beneficial insect species throughout the vineyard.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is a single vineyard wine and as such expresses the specific vineyard site in each season. Over time and vintages the wines become an archive, or a chronology of the events of the seasons, and capture the uniqueness of the site, allowing all to witness the development of the wine’s style and personality. From Augusta in the very south of the Margaret River region, the wine is a classic, complex and unique example of Margaret River’s signature regional white blend.

    TASTING NOTES

The bouquet has an alluring musk, cantaloupe and peach perfume followed again by lemon curd. Multi-layered and complex, the nose reveals gunsmoke and savoury battonage characters with a rich aromatic intensity. The palate has a beautiful spring water minerality, it is supple and showing fine phenolics – a result of the hand-picked fruit. Bright jasmine flowers and luscious flavours of rambutan and orange blossom are carried by a fresh acidity, the finish is long and this wine is built to age. The pristine palate reflects this vineyard’s southern aspect showing precision and poise.

Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc of the Year 2019 - Halliday Wine Companion

'Very aromatic rich toasty nose, with lots of tomato leaf and some fresh asparagus with hints of acacia honey and green apricot, the palate has heaps of greengage and pineapple fruit with baked apple hints, great depth weight and length'

'Nutty oak and low-level sulfides interact with herbal and tropical fruit aromas. A pungent style to sniff, the palate more restrained and savoury with a clean, dry finish and good length. An arresting style of wine, concentrated and powerful. (61% sauvignon blanc, 39% semillon. 60% new oak)'
    95 Points - Huon Hooke

'Sort of two thirds sauvignon blanc. Lighter on the phenolics and oak than in past releases. Still sees a good dash of oak though. Strong herbal notes launch the wine, green pea, beans, asparagus, hints of lemon, grapefruit. Distinct. Palate is tight, drives with brisk acidity and yet there are many layers to flavour. Slight chewiness to texture, finishes with faint yeasty, savoury note. Impressive wine.'
