  • THE BRIEF
  • Stella Bella's five distinctive vineyards are located throughout southern Margaret River. An area of the region chosen for its cool climate and ability to produce elegant, aromatic and medium bodied wines with personality and precision.

Their farming practices aim to improve soils and maintain vine health. This gives them the ability to make subtle changes, responding to the season and surrounding environment. Creating fruit that reflects the climate, soil and character of southern Margaret River. In the pursuit of vine balance, they use respectful techniques such as organic fertilisers, mid-row cropping, spring plantings of buckwheat and minimal chemical inputs. All of these practices help with nutrient cycling and encourage beneficial insect species throughout the vineyard.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • Matured in 60% new French oak for 14 months, the wine built for further bottle ageing.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

The bouquet has an alluring musk, cantaloupe and peach perfume followed again by lemon curd. Multi-layered and complex, the nose reveals gunsmoke and savoury battonage characters with a rich aromatic intensity. The palate has a beautiful spring water minerality, it is supple and showing fine phenolics – a result of the hand-picked fruit. Bright jasmine flowers and luscious flavours of rambutan and orange blossom are carried by a fresh acidity, the finish is long and this wine is built to age. The pristine palate reflects this vineyard's southern aspect showing precision and poise.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Stella Bella Wines evolved from the fusion of two passionate minds, Stuart Pym and Janice McDonald. They had a strong belief in the unique and expressive terroir of the Margaret River region, and it was this belief that carried them on their journey to create Stella Bella Wines. Back in 1996, Stuart and Janice took over the 'Suckfizzle' Vineyard, believing that its distinctive location would produce unique wines. They weren't wrong, and in 1998 the first vintage of Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon was released. The Stella Bella name was launched in the following yers, as their portfolio of wines grew. They added an estate range, an entry-level range under the label Skuttlebutt, and a premium range labelled, Serie Luminosa. In 2013, Stuart handed over the reins as Chief Winemaker to Luke Joliffe. Today, the Stella Bella team work with a variety of vineyards dotted throughout the Margaret River - Darch, Isca, Forest Grove, Karridale and, of course, Suckfizzle. Each site encapsulates a different aspect and terroir of the Margaret River, allowing Luke and his team to create harmonious blends across different vineyards, or to isolate single vineyard expressions and showcase the individual vineyard characteristics.

    DECANTER

Very aromatic rich toasty nose, with lots of tomato leaf and some fresh asparagus with hints of acacia honey and green apricot, the palate has heaps of greengage and pineapple fruit with baked apple hints, great depth weight and length.'

NED GOODWIN - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

'Always a regional tour de force, this has high quality Graves written all over it; not merely fermented in French oak (60% new), but aged as well (40% new) for 14 months, with incremental batonnage to amplify the compelling textural detail. A citrus choir with the focus on lemon: lemon grass, lemon curd and ripe Meyer, all soaring along a balancing beam of vanilla cream oak. This is world class, transcending the general malaise when it comes to these oft-abused varieties.'

    95 POINTS

    HUON HOOKE

Nutty oak and low-level sulfides interact with herbal and tropical fruit aromas. A pungent style to sniff, the palate more restrained and savoury with a clean, dry finish and good length. An arresting style of wine, concentrated and powerful. (61% sauvignon blanc, 39% semillon. 60% new oak).'

    93 POINTS

MIKE BENNIE - THE WINE FRONT

Sort of two thirds sauvignon blanc. Lighter on the phenolics and oak than in past releases. Still sees a good dash of oak though. Strong herbal notes launch the wine, green pea, beans, asparagus, hints of lemon, grapefruit. Distinct. Palate is tight, drives with brisk acidity and yet there are many layers to flavour. Slight chewiness to texture, finishes with faint yeasty, savoury note. Impressive wine.'
