2015 Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Barossa Valley Shiraz

Torzi Matthews

Our Price: $19.99 / bottle (RRP: $25.00) Case: 12 x 750ml

'This is an awesomely full-bodied, power-laden wine, deeply coloured and awash with black fruits and tannins, licorice and charry meat contributing part of the complexity.'

  • 'A producer of beautiful honest wines from the Barossa' - Phillip White

Estate single vineyard wine grown in the chilly surrounds of Mount McKenzie in the Eden Valley, Barossa. This label represents Torzi Matthew's rendition of Eden Valley, Barossa Shiraz using the non dried portions of fruit that end up in Frost Dodger Shiraz (while also being aged in the 1-3 year old versions of the very same oak barrels that make up the Frost Dodger).

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

In the garage the Shiraz fruit was gently destemmed including 25% whole bunch into open top milk vats and fermented warm with natural yeasts, soft pump overs, hand plunging and basket pressed to barrel to complete ferment. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Expect all that this label represents; wine enjoyment!

    TASTING NOTES

Dark fruits, Christmas pudding, rich and sweet. But altogether balance and with such a lavish display of generous flavour. Exceptional wine, and an exceptional price.

'25% whole bunches, warm-fermented in open top milk vats with wild yeast, matured in used French oak, unfined and unfiltered. This is an awesomely full-bodied, power-laden wine, deeply coloured and awash with black fruits and tannins, licorice and charry meat contributing part of the complexity. The one thing I don't get is that this vineyard is in the Eden Valley - why use the Barossa catch-all GI, especially given the wine has a powerful sense of place'

'Typically, this is extraordinary value. Dials in a good amount of Barossa heartiness for the bucks, but without clobbering you or showing much out of form.

Lip-smacking goodness. Barossa on blast. Dark berry fruits, a waft of Christmas pudding, fresh lathed wood-oak, sweet spices in the bouquet. The palate is more fuller-medium weight than hefty, rich and sweet in fruit, fine in sandy tannins, fresh-feeling through the finish. It drinks and drinks and drinks. No need to hold back. Put it on your to-do list.'
