DESCRIPTION
  • The Cuilleron family domaine is located in the hamlet of Verlieu, part of the town of Chavanay. As of 2012, the domaine is comprised of 52 hectares of vineyards, covering multiple appellations including, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph Rouge and Blanc, Cote Rotie, and Saint-Peray.

Cuilleron produces “Le Village” from 3 different holdings: one behind the church of the village of Cornas, one in the lieu-dit of “Reynard” and one in the locality “La Cote” in the prime swath of the Cornas appellation.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

High density planting in terraced, granitic soils. No insecticides or pesticides are used in the vineyard, and only a small amount of organic fertiliser is used, with respect to the soil and vine balance. Leaf-thinning and green-harvesting are employed to promote grape maturation.

The grapes are handpicked then sorted, crushed and partially destemmed. Fermentation takes place in open, temperature-controlled vats for about 3 weeks, with regular cap-punching and pumping over. The wine is then transferred to barriques for malolactic fermentation and maturation for 18 months. Bottled unfiltered.

    TASTING NOTES

A mouth-watering, expressive wine with aromas of gorgeously ripe black fruit, spice, and garrigue notes. Ample and charming on the palate, with a powerful spicy finish.

  • REVIEWS

'Inky ruby. Pungent black and blue fruit and pungent floral aromas, along with hints of cracked pepper, licorice and violet. Broad, seamless and appealingly sweet, offering juicy blueberry and violet pastille flavors and hints of spicecake and bitter chocolate. Clings with strong tenacity and spiciness on the finish, which is framed by smooth, building tannins.
