'The pale straw-green wine already has complex texture and structure, with a mix of vibrant grapefruit notes criss-crossed by flinty acidity and roasted almonds.'

Stuart Dudine created Alkimi Wines out of a quest to sculpt wine by choosing parcels of grapes which reflect his winemaking philosophy. In his words; 'To find vineyard parcels that perform exceptionally well where their roots lay, year in and year out. No matter the season, wet or dry, cool or warm.' He strives to create unique and individual wines through expertise and experience, rather than product and artifice. He believes the best wines are the purest wines; wines which exhibit the grapes they were produced from.
The Marsanne grapes were sourced from Wattle Glen Vineyard. The vineyard is a small 1 acre block of unirrigated vines located in Mount Evelyn, Yarra Valley. The grapes were handpicked on the 21st of February at moderate ripeness when the pear, subtle mascarpone notes with bright acidity were present. The grapes were whole bunch pressed to oak barrels for fermentation, no new oak was used. After fermentation the barrels were sulphured, topped and sat on yeast lees until November 2016, where the wine was then blended and bottled. Malolactic fermentation was inhibited.
The appearance is golden. On the nose there are aromas of beeswax, grapefruit, lime and sweet tones akin to almond brittle. Floral tones of star jasmine and white lily are present. The palate exhibits creamy, flinty tones with fruit notes of grapefruit, lime and green pear. Fuller honey, butterscotch and marzipan tones sit subtly in the wine and the finish is long and lasting.
'From the Wattle Glen Vineyard at Mt Evelyn on red soil, hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed to used French oak for fermentation and 9 months maturation on lees (no mlf). The pale straw-green wine already has complex texture and structure, with a mix of vibrant grapefruit notes criss-crossed by flinty acidity and roasted almonds. Its bloodlines guarantee its capacity to develop yet more over the next 10 years.'

'Lemon balm, whey, fennel, pretty perfume that feels inviting and pure. Crisp, cool and lean-ish in the palate, but packs in refreshing citrusy character and a long, fine, slightly chalky tail to the finish. Mouthwatering is a word that keeps coming to mind. Tightly wound, some fine detail, lots of refreshment factor. This feels good to drink, and then some.'

'Light yellow hue with a nutty barrel-ferment bouquet. The palate is soft and rich, smooth and round, with really good depth and breadth of favour. The finish is dry and savoury, nutty, toasty and lingering.'
