2016 Benjamin Leroux Savigny-lés-Beaune

Our Price: $79.99 / bottle (RRP: $95.00 ) Case: 1 x 750ml
Screwcap. With just three barrels of Hauts Jarrons this year, reduced from the typical 12, the entire production was declassified into this Savigny cuvée. Even so, Leroux only squeezed out nine barrels in total of this wine, representing less than a third of his usual production. Do the sums and you’ll realise that this wine is, in fact, one-third Premier Cru and the quality in the glass will make sense. Again, the fruit was fully destemmed and saw next to no new oak. The wine has outstanding depth and flesh for Savigny, reflecting the addition of the 1er Cru. It’s floral and immediately seductive yet there is also some stuffing and excellent length. An absolute winner and a bargain to boot.

'The 2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village… has a well-defined, black cherry and raspberry preserve-scented bouquet tinged with sous bois and undergrowth scents. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannin, perfectly judged acidity, bright red and blue fruit with great precision toward the finish. Superb. Forget the modest status indicated on the label because there is a serious wine here.'
