  • Established in 1970 Brokenwood Wines is one of Australia's most reputable premium wine labels and a must-visit in the Hunter Valley. Consistently listed as a 5 star winery, Brokenwood is home to the famous Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz, the highly acclaimed ILR Reserve Semillon, and the popular Cricket Pitch Range.


    The Orange district is widely recognised as one of Australia’s premium cool climate regions. Rob Crawford established the ‘Forest Edge’ Vineyard in 1988. Vintage 2015 is Brokenwood’s 16th year of handling fruit from Forest Edge. The 2015 winter was cold and relatively dry with June, July and August recording 215mm of rain. A very dry Spring was on the cards but 77mm in November and 79mm in December helped vine growth and temperature heading up to low 30s. January was wetter with 87mm but a dry February, 7mm of rain on 12th February was it for the month along with temps in the 20s to low 30s. A perfect lead up to the 2016 harvest and the fruit was picked on the 4th March.


    A very attractive pale yellow colour with green tints. Lifted aroma on the citrus spectrum with grapefruit and lime notes. Even though an indigenous (wild) yeast ferment, the fruit shines through. Some back ground ‘bran meal’ from the lees and oak. Citrus fruit palate that is both fresh and bright but multi-layered. Perfect acid that carries the flavours to the finish plus lingering after taste.

    'Attractive, complex bouquet with smoky oak and sulfide aromas dominating, and some hints of Friar's Balsam. The acidity is quite high and the palate nervy and crisp and a trifle pinched. It's a taut, refined, nervy and quite long wine which could take some age.'
