  • THE BRIEF
  • A Rutherglen icon, this powerful red is fresh, vibrant and oozes dark plum fruit blended with aromas of ground spice and earthy complexity. Mouth-watering fruit flavours of rich dark plum and mulberry balance oak tannin beautifully. If you have the patience to cellar, this shiraz will continue to develop for another 10-12 years. Try it with a Moroccan spice rubbed fillet of beef or slow cooked beef rib eye.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • After fermentation on skins for six to seven days using closed and rotary fermenters, the wine was subsequently aged for a period of 12 months in a mixture of new to three year old premium French and American barrels.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Deep, rich red. The nose has real intensity, with dark berries and plum perfectly integrated with notes of black pepper. A hint of subtle oak sits in the background. This wine is full bodied with powerful characters of dark berries and ripe plum fruit, beautifully balanced with layers of fine tannin and complementary notes of liquorice, ironstone and cocoa. A wonderful vintage that is drinking well in its youth but destined to reward careful cellaring.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • The Campbell's are a fifth generation winemaking family dedicated to continuing a tradition begun in 1870, of producing premium quality wines that reflect the distinctive characteristics of the Rutherglen region. Drawing on their intimate knowledge of the region the Campbell's can ensure that they grow grapes of the highest quality. The result is traditional styles of wines with finesse and a subtle use of oak complementing the full fruit flavours.Colin Campbell is the winemaker at his family's estate. Colin completed his diploma of Oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. On his return to Rutherglen he brought with him new skills and oversaw the rapid expansion of the fermentation cellar to pioneer a new era for wine in the Rutherglen district.

CAMPBELL MATTINSON - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

An excellent release of this much-loved shiraz. More vibrant than you might expect but still carrying plenty of ripe, berried fruit flavour. Win-win. Red and black berries, ferrous notes, florals and earth. Just-enough tannin. Impeccably well balanced and presented.'
