'Deep colour; this is all about compressed power demanding to be left alone until its silky dark fruits soften and allow exploration of the latent flavours.'
94 Points - James Halliday

  • Clyde Park Vineyard was established by Gary Farr in 1979 in the premium Geelong sub-region of Bannockburn when Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were planted on the property.

This estate Pinot is a blend of some of the leading single-vineyard blocks within the estate plantings. 2016 has created a powerful, dark and tannin Pinot that will unfurl over the next decade or so.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

    TASTING NOTES

Dark cherry red with ruby highlights. Complex nose loaded with dark brooding berry fruits – black raspberry, dark cherry with a hint of boysenberry; then dark spice, graphite and earthiness. Medium-weight, the palate is predominated by savoury tones, as the nose suggests. There are dark fruits playing base notes in the background of the spice; fine earthy-tasting tannins and dark minerality. You can feel the black volcanic soils and the low yields. Fine acidity draws out the finish, with some brighter red fruit tones bringing elegance and freshness to the finish. The 30% whole bunches are beautifully incorporated, adding just a hint of perfume and more complete tannins. This is very complex and shows more serious than the average vintage suggesting its best with food or some age.

  • REVIEWS

'Deep colour; this is all about compressed power demanding to be left alone until its silky dark fruits soften and allow exploration of the latent flavours. It's also about the difference between the '15 and '16 vintages in pinot's dress circle around Melbourne.'

'Estate-grown pinot noir from the Bannockburn sub-region. Meaty pinot noir. Characterful. Mocha-like oak, a deep set of black cherried fruit, a good reach of tannin, spice. Simultaneously lively, tangy and impactful. You can sink into this. It doesn’t have a lot of colour but it has presence. It will mature well.'
