2016 Corofin Churton Vineyard Pinot Noir

Almost an Earl Grey tea mouth-perfume, clean fresh strawberry acidity, and a well-defined finish of fine length, just smudged affectionately with the wonderful tannin that comes from this vineyard. Yes.'

DESCRIPTION
  • Set 200 metres above sea level, spanning a ridge line between the Omaka and Waihopai valleys, the Churton Vineyard is a unique Marlborough site. Close planted in rows that follow the natural contours of the land, this block is the embodiment of Sam & Mandy Weaver’s intellect and their commitment to site expression.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Four days in sealed tanks as whole berries, then foot trodden, natural ferment, 16 days on skins, pressed to old barrel; spontaneous malolactic in the late spring/early summer with the wine remaining on original lees for 13 months; racked to tank for six months, before being bottled without fining or filtration.

    TASTING NOTES

Overall this is a wonderfully poised Pinot of great finesse. The fruit spectrum is all wild berries, brown spice and red florals and the finish is long and unbelievably seductive. Just a wonderful Pinot full stop.

  • REVIEWS

'Flesh and flavour, red berries, spice and a damp sweet earthiness. The tannin is ripe and silty, and takes the wine, I feel, to a higher level. Almost an Earl Grey tea mouth-perfume, clean fresh strawberry acidity, and a well-defined finish of fine length, just smudged affectionately with the wonderful tannin that comes from this vineyard. Yes.'
