The famous Saar estate has been in the hands of the Müller family since 1797 and they currently own just over 8 hectares of the stellar Scharzhofberg vineyard, the Saar’s most qualified contender for the title of great growth, challenging the famous sites of the Middle Mosel with ease. Egon Müller's single vineyard holding is dominated by Riesling though a small patch is planted to other varieties and he consistently produces wines of incredible purity, line and detail from the slate soils of the famous vineyard. Egon Müller is the sole German member of the Primum Familiae Vini whose other members include Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Vega Sicilia, Torres, Pol Roger, Antinori and Hugel & Fils.
ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA - THE WINE ENTHUSIAST
Musk and earthen complexities of smoke and struck flint meld into sun-kissed yellow cherry and tangerine in this seductive, complex kabinett. It's ethereal and sheer yet boldly penetrating, with a piercing lemon-lime finish. Delicious already but sure to improve through 2022 and hold well beyond.
This is very clean and pure with an intense herbal-mineral quality that's beautifully complemented by the apple and berry notes. The finish has an Alpine meadow freshness that no other kabinett from this vintage I've tasted has, and that's the most exciting thing about it.
