A dry, warm season was punctuated with a
tropical rain event in January. This pushed back harvest and allowed for
better balance during ripening. The resultant fruit had wonderful thick skins, incredible concentration and excellent varietal identity.
The Cabernet was harvested late-morning, to ensure the fruit reached the winery warm to ensure a healthy, even fermentation. The Merlot and Malbec fruit was harvested during the cool of the early morning so it could be cold soaked on skins for 5 days prior to fermentation. The selectively harvested fruit was fermented over 10 days, with the Merlot and Malbec undergoing partial wild fermentation. The Cabernet remained on skins for 20 days to ensure a beautiful, vibrant colour. All elements were then matured in French oak for up to 15 months. Each individual barrel was assessed to determine which were included in the final blend.
Rich purple/red with a vibrant purple rim. Distinctly Margaret River; driven by aromas of blackberry, plum, bay leaf and a touch of black olive. The Merlot and Malbec add texture, balance, length and a luxurious fragrance to create a seamless and unique red.
Evans and Tate was founded by John Evans in 1974. The estate lies in the Wilyabrup district of the Margaret River region. The site was selected for its well drained gravel soils, Mediterranean climate and maritime location. The winery has a strong international presence and can be found exported to over 14 countries across the world. Evans and Tate are one of Western Australia’s original wineries. The wines of Evans and Tate highlight the hero grape varieties of Margaret River, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blends.
Such a beautifully poised and expressive wine capturing the key elements of Margaret River. Has a distinct lift of bay leaf and tabacco leaf on the nose. The palate is influenced by a grainy tannin character that holds the fruit line to the long finish. Excellent wine that has been beautifully crafted.
HUON HOOKE - THE REAL REVIEW
Very bright, youthful, deep red/purple colour. The bouquet is superbly fresh and vibrant, with stylish oak augmenting violets, blueberries and red berries that overflow from the glass. The wine is medium to full-bodied, intense and bright, with lovely vibrant fruit leading the way and abundant fine-grained tannins backing up. It's long and superbly balanced. The epitome of elegance.
JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
Gold medals from the WA, Adelaide and National Wine Shows. The varieties were vinified separately, matured for 18 months. Attention to detail has captured all the fruit needed without any heavy-handed work in the winery. Simply delicious, simply elegant - just a juicy play of cassis/red berries/fine-spun tannins.
GARY WALSH - THE WINE FRONT
Blackberry, dark mint chocolate, vanilla, wood and resin. Medium bodied, intense and firm in acidity, gravelly almost chalky tannin, black olive, red and black fruit, very good length, Feels pretty constructed, but no doubt it’s a good wine.
