  • THE BRIEF
  • Certain names resonate strongly within the halls of Australian wine history. Jim Barry is one such name. It was Jim Barry's drive and community spirit that helped shape South Australia's Clare Valley as a benchmark producer of world class Riesling and cemented its place as one of Australia's premier wine regions.

Over the past 55 years the Barry family have developed and nurtured a mosaic of vineyards across the Clare Valley, each unique in site, soil and aspect. Distinct parcels of fruit are selected to make wines that reflect the vineyard from which the grapes are grown. Picked at optimum ripeness from their Watervale vineyard and matured in French oak, this Shiraz shows the elegance and restraint of this cool site.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

This wine is a deep red hue in the glass. The nose opens with a dark berry compote and a savoury edge with dark florals. Generous sweet, dark fruits with a hint of gun powder and graphite. The tannin profile is well rounded with an acid line that is light of its feet matched with dark broody fruit.

NED GOODWIN - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

Violet, anise and nori seaweed scents rule uber blueberry, mulberry and a skein of peppery acidity, threading itself through the eye of reduction. Everything is on song. In tune. Nothing excessive. Pulpy, joyous and delicious.

A high-quality offering that delivers a wealth of red plums, raspberries, mulberries and spices on the nose. The palate has good freshness a smoothly rendered fleshy texture thanks to the time spent in the 2500-liter French oak foudre. Flavors of red plums and dark raspberries curl around supple and even tannins.
