DESCRIPTION
  • Massolino wines are the result of a privileged relationship with the vineyard, interpreting all its peculiarities and nuances. A relationship built up day by day, personally supervising every moment in the production chain in all twenty three hectares of the estate. From the vineyard to the cellar, from the vine to the bottle.

The Langhe Nebbiolo is a classic wine in their range. Their vision for the wine:

'It is [The Langhe Nebbiolo] that allows us to "approach" the great emotions offered by an important wine of Langhe fruit exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. A greater immediacy and drinkability, allow you to get closer to this glass without the "awe" that is customarily recognized to Barolo.'

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Nebbiolo from vineyards situated in Serralunga d'Alba at an altitude of 340m above sea level. 2.1 hectares planted on calcareous soils. This wine comes from Massolino's younger Barolo vines in Serralunga. When these vines are old enough they will help produce the Barolo proper. A classic wine, with average fermentation and maceration lasting 8-10 days, very similar to that used for Barolo. It ages in traditional barrels for over a year and, during its whole production cycle, the utmost attention is paid to all the details which convey smoothness and elegance to a young Nebbiolo.

    TASTING NOTES

Garnet red with variable intensity depending on the vintage. Delicate and pleasant bouquet, the predominant notes are of raspberry and violet, with the imposition of secondary perfumes very similar to those of Barolo as it ages. A complete and temptingly harmonious wine the elegance of which makes up for its lesser structure compared with that of Barolo.

  • REVIEWS

'Aromas of cherries, cedar and strawberries with some subtle cream follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh and flavorful finish. Very pretty.'
    92 Points - James Suckling

'Bright, spicy, red cherry, some new leather. Medium-bodied, fresh and lively, bright fruit, almost jubey, but savoury flavours with it. Tannin has a chamois-like feel, red fruit on the finish, and plenty of grip. It’s a good iteration of this wine. Not quite ready now, and while juicy fun it may be, it’ll be much better in a couple of years.'
91 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

'The 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo is a clear, direct and immediate wine. It offers those characteristic varietal tones of dried berry fruit, rose hip and licorice with a cheerful and informal approach. This bouquet is mild in terms of intensity, but all the main components are there. There is a very subtle note of sweetness or softness in the mouth that makes this wine a good choice to drink within the next two or three years. With 40,000 bottles made, this wine should be relatively easy to source.'
