  • 'Orin Swift is the brainchild of a brilliant young man by the name of Dave Phinney. His Midas touch with grapes from seemingly anywhere in the world, is unusual, but the brilliance of the wines, his creativeness and unparalleled blending talents have built an incredible portfolio right out of the gate. He only started Orin Swift in 1998 and just recently sold it to the huge Gallo enterprise. Readers looking for personality filled wines of considerable character and complexity need to check out the Orin Swift offerings. They are not shy wines in any respect, but the quality is obvious, and if you are like me and believe that a wine is to be judged on just how delicious it is, you will be as impressed as I have been with the Orin Swift products.'
    Robert Parker

Slander is Phinney's take on Pinot Noir. Sourced from the Russian River and Santa Rita Hills, it's a 'soulful' wine that breathes power and intensity. Cali Pinot is unlike any other, and this wine is no exception. It has depth and darkness, with a voluminous fragrance of dried herbs, sarsaparilla, charcuterie, smoked tea, plum and cherry essence.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Pinot Noir and Orin Swift Cellars have had a unique relationship over the years. With this being only the third release of Slander, their experimentation and trials with Pinot Noir go back many years prior. The signature style of finding the highest quality grapes, picking without hesitation and being gentle with the fruit during fermentation is of utmost importance. What results is a final blend of fruit sourced from the Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley and Santa Rita Hills.

    TASTING NOTES

An elegant nose presents, with complex aromatics of ripe cherries and dried rose petals, a touch of white pepper and a hint of alpine forest. Balanced and integrated, the palate comprises of sweet strawberries, cranberries, and traces of rhubarb. The wine closes at length with a finish of toasted brioche, a dash of caramel and fresh raspberries.

    Current Vintage

'The 2016 'Slander' is a deep colored Pinot Noir, which begins with a profile of cherry cola, bramble and wild blackberry aromatics. The texture to this wine is lovely as this reveals sexy flavors reminiscent of candied red cherries, orange rind, rose water and suggestions of pomegranate. Lithe and rich, this should continue to evolve in the cellar over the next decade.'
