A layered nose showing white stone fruits and spice with hints of lemon curd, cashew and flint notes. The wine has power and poise, balanced by a tight, linear structure with superb texture and complexity. The Minimalist Chardonnay finishes with exceptional natural acidity and lingering fruit flavour.
From its first production of 141 cases of 1995 Shiraz, Penny's Hill has established a fine reputation for outstanding vineyards from which acclaimed estate wines have emerged. Very much a part of the recent McLaren Vale landscape, the Penny's Hill story commenced in 1988 with the purchase of the original vineyard site. The brand message: "Proudly Australian. More so McLaren Vale."
Winemaker Alexia Roberts consistently produces fine, full-bodied, fruit driven wines using premium estate-grown fruit from some of the best quality vineyards in the region. A meticulous approach every step of the way, from the narrow-planted, low yielding vineyards and throughout the winemaking process, Alexia’s wines deliver the ultimate balance of texture, complexity and interest.
JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
Minimalist winemaking: free-run juice wild-fermented and matured on lees for 8 months in French oak (30% new). Bright straw-green; has significant bottled-developed flavour, but not at the expense of finesse or balance. The fruit flavours are neatly balanced between citrus and stone fruit, white peach and grapefruit have dealt with the new oak in fine fashion.
