DESCRIPTION
  • The Rheingau wines of Robert Weil have reached well beyond cult status and today are revered across the globe as some of Germany’s most superlative Rieslings. Based in the town of Kiedrich, Weil’s wines are fuelled by the three epic, high altitude, south facing vineyards of Klosterberg, Turmberg and most famously, Gräfenberg, all situated in the foothills of the Taunus Mountains.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

This cuvée is a blend of fruit from high altitude estate vineyards - including the wonderfully named Sandgrub vineyard - dotted around the village. There's a good dollop of wine from Wasseros too, a steep, southwest-facing vineyard that abuts the Gräfenberg vines. The soils here are composed of stony, fragmented phyllite interlaced with loess and loam. The fruit for this 2016 was picked at Spätlese level, bringing good depth and flesh for this level that really is necessary to complement the wine's vibrant, tangy, quenching acidity and mineral intensity.

    TASTING NOTES

Charming, fruit-driven Riesling whose balanced, tangy flavors means one glass is never quite enough. The Riesling Trocken is pure and intense, with a stony richness and a lively, well-balanced structure.

  • REVIEWS

'Weil's 2016 Rheingau Riesling Trocken, mainly fermented in stainless steel (just 5% in large oak), is an intense, lush and piquant wine with a great mineral structure and good length. It was not chaptalized and is dry (7 grams of residual sugar) but rich, round and provided with self-confident acidity and mineral structure. This is a silky and seamless Riesling in perfect balance.'
