Domaine Rolet is one of the largest family-owned wine concerns in Jura, with 65ha of vineyards spread through the four Jura appellations: Arbois, Cotes du Jura, Etoile, and Chateau-Chalon.
They were one of the first Domaines in the Jura region to champion single-varietal wines, rather than using the fruit in blends. As such, they have a strong reputation for producing wines of distinction and quality. Their philosophy centres around meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard, small yields and picking at optimal ripeness. This Arbois Vieilles Vignes comes from 50+ year-old vines, that yield very small parcels of Poulsard. The wine is then aged in old oak foudre for 12 months. A beautifully light and delicate red, with classic, racy acidity and a gamey, animal note that is so often associated with Jura reds.
100% Poulsard from 50+ YO vines. 280-380m altitude, on red marl soils. Bunches sorted and de-stemmed, before fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Aged in older oak foudre.
A savoury nose with aromas of tart lingonberries and cranberries, some strawberry notes and a subtle herbal tone underpinned by a little bit of animal barnyard character. The wine is light-bodied and lively on the palate with high acidity. There are vibrant flavours of tart cranberries, wild strawberries, some sappy greenness, and a little bit of earthiness. The finish is fresh and long with crunchy flavors of red currants, some fresh blackcurrants, and a little bit of earthy spice.
