Here it is. The stalwart wine from Dan Standish's troupe of excellent cult releases. Sourced this year from a vineyard on Parb's Road in Greenock, this release is a powerful tour de force of concentration and latent energy. As always there is a vitality to Dan's wines, and this vintage is no shrieking violet. Exuberant fragrant nose, with lavender, violets, charcuterie and smoked coals. The tannins are what makes this wine the best... it's just seamless, but the draw down and length is memorable. Dan, take a bow, this is another fine release and will challenge any Australian wine, across all price points.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

100% Shiraz - sourced from the Laycock Vineyard on Parbs Road, in Greenock. Planted on roots in 2002, over ironstone gravels and schist/dark red clays at 314 metres above sea level.

    TASTING NOTES

Dense, latent and strapping, this flaunts the flawless purity. Tightly wound with its cards close to the vest, deep-set aromatics of coal, pressed currant and black truffle are foiled by redolent tones of tilled soil, beef broth and slow roasted meats. Dark and brooding with immense concentration, persistence and energy it is gently laced with a long fine cloak of silken tannin. More reticent than its stable mate, it shows wonderful staying power for those with immense patience and cool, dark cellars.

  • REVIEWS

'Greenock Shiraz, and a very good one at that. Inky black thing this is, almost impenetrable. Grilled meat, lavender, blueberry and blackberry, dark spices and vanilla. Full bodied, thick with sheets of dense, compact tannin, almost a slaty feel here, well-bedded acidity, and for all the thunder, there’s something of a petrichor perfume going on in the mouth, along with scrub herbs. The finish rolls on and on, and is slick with tannin, and fresh ‘minerally’ acidity.  Enriched by glorious tannin, fragrance and spice of Shiraz, and regional earthiness: it’s a fantastic expression of the Barossa.'
