The Estate Range from TarraWarra is grown and made with the same approach as the Reserve wines - all handpicked and made with a focus on varietal expression. The wines are 100% Estate grown and sourced from vines over fifteen or more years in age. The style aims for purity of fruit, with an emphasis on harmony and balance.
Fruit for the Estate wine was sourced from 14-30 year-old vines across various blocks. The TarraWarra Estate vineyard has a northerly aspect across high sloping hill-sides, which provides good drainage and air circulation. The grapes are all hand harvested at approximately seven tonnes per hectare.
The wine is a blend of seven blocks located across the TarraWarra property. Harvested between 11.8 and 12.4 baume, the wine was naturally fermented in both barrel and tank.
The wine has grapefruit and lemon zest aromas with underlying notes of cashew nuts. The tight palate reflects the season, with texture derived from 10 months on lees and a lovely drive with persistence of flavour. With oak and tank maturation, the wine shows an elegant complexity with appealing freshness.
TarraWarra Estate was established in 1983 by Marc and Eva Besen with a vision to producing wines of great quality and integrity amidst a welcoming and beautiful location. TarraWarra Estate is located on a prime site at the warm eastern end of the Yarra Valley in southern Victoria. It is recognised as one of Australia’s great wine estates. Chief winemaker, Clare Halloran leads a team at TarraWarra Estate that pays particular attention to the characteristics of each new vintage. The remarkable qualities of every individual vineyard block are preserved by fermentation and vinification of many different parcels of fruit. As a result, TarraWarra wines offer a unique reflection of seasonal conditions in the vineyard. TarraWarra Estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have received consistent acclaim and numerous awards. They are premium wines of great character and depth, crafted with elegant structure and balance. They reflect the outstanding quality of 100% estate grown fruit from the unique microclimate of a specially selected site.
STEVEN CREBER - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
Tarrawarra's staple chardonnay release, usually a good guide to the personality of the vintage. From this warmer year, there's ripeness, with stone fruit more pronounced than citrus. Oak is subtle, adding a creamy, nutty element to the aromas and flavours and texture on the palate. Freshness and balance without elaboration is a successful formula here.
Round and creamy, with gentle peach and melon fruit, nutty vanilla oak and hints of smoked bacon. Finishes with hints of nougat and marzipan.
