  • TarraWarra Estate is best known for exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, alongside other single-block heritage varietals and estate blends. Their wines express the unique terroir of the TarraWarra Estate site in the Yarra Valley, which is comprised of 28 individual blocks and planted with carefully selected clones, each of which contributes distinctive characteristics to their wines. Under the watchful eye of winemaker Clare Halloran, all of TarraWarra Estate’s wines are meticulously grown, handpicked, vinified and aged on the estate.

The Reserve Wines reflect the heritage of the single Estate philosophy at TarraWarra, with the first vintage in 1986. The wines represent the best sites from the Estate's vineyards and are noted for their longevity and balance. TarraWarra Estate’s two flagship wines are made from classic Burgundy varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are particularly suited to the Yarra Valley’s cool climate.

  • The season leading up to the 2016 harvest saw warmer conditions through Spring and up to Christmas, bringing ripening forward. January and February were similar to 2015, with cool nights and warm days during ripening allowing for retention of acid and full flavour development.

H-Block is the backbone of the Reserve Pinot Noir blend. At 32 years of age, this is one of our icon sites. It consistently produces our highest quality Pinot Noir, the soil is naturally low yielding giving optimum vine balance.

The fruit batches are kept separate in barrel and blended to the style intended to express the truest form of the varietal character and the site.

Maturation took place in a mix of 225L and 500L French oak puncheons, 25% new.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Aromas of cherries, rose petals and restrained cedar oak, the wine shows restrained complexity on the nose. The palate is finely layered opening with fleshy pure fruit, a silky texture, fine tannins and an elegant palate. It has wonderful persistence of flavour and excellent potential for long term cellaring.

  • TarraWarra Estate was established in 1983 by Marc and Eva Besen with a vision to producing wines of great quality and integrity amidst a welcoming and beautiful location. TarraWarra Estate is located on a prime site at the warm eastern end of the Yarra Valley in southern Victoria. It is recognised as one of Australia’s great wine estates. Chief winemaker, Clare Halloran leads a team at TarraWarra Estate that pays particular attention to the characteristics of each new vintage. The remarkable qualities of every individual vineyard block are preserved by fermentation and vinification of many different parcels of fruit. As a result, TarraWarra wines offer a unique reflection of seasonal conditions in the vineyard. TarraWarra Estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have received consistent acclaim and numerous awards. They are premium wines of great character and depth, crafted with elegant structure and balance. They reflect the outstanding quality of 100% estate grown fruit from the unique microclimate of a specially selected site.

  • RALPH KYTE-POWELL - THE AGE

A Yarra pinot worth decanting. It evolves through subdued foresty aromas into spice cherry compote and earthy notes. Silky, succulent and fine, it has soft tannins, good balance, and a lasting aromatic aftertaste.
