'A very well-made wine based on a Clare Valley special blend with a long lineage, this wine absolutely in the centre of that line. Cabernet provides the structure, malbec the fruit to fill the spaces.'
95 Points - James Halliday
Cabernet Malbec blends from the Clare Valley seem to have quite the reputation. Just look at the likes of Wendouree, and the cult following for their yearly Cabernet Malbec release to realise just how good this variety can be in the baking clay soils of the Clare.
Under the steadfast hands of Tim Adams, the team have wrought a brilliant firm footed release in 2014, making this wine an absolute bargain. Red currants, black fruits, menthol, spice and a touch of dried herbs present a wine that drinks very easy, but one that will love a long-life if cellared well.
Twenty four months in French oak provides depth and balance to this style which is dominated by juicy ripe plum, fresh blackcurrant and oak aromas and flavours.
Feel content cellaring this Cabernet Malbec for at least ten years in good conditions. We recommend decanting a few hours before enjoying.
"The 2014 vintage in the Clare Valley felt positive from the word go, with picking occurring in a timely manner and the flavour profiles, natural acidity, colour and tannin in the reds looking fantastic at an early stage", Winemaker Brett Schutz said.
Cabernet Sauvignon has long been recognised as an excellent, consistent variety that performs well in the Clare Valley. The addition of Malbec adds to the complexity of the mid-palate contributing violet, mulberry, added texture and richness, resulting in a full-bodied wine with generous chalky tannins.
'A 70/30% blend from four vineyards, fermented separately, matured in new and used French oak for 24 months. A very well-made wine based on a Clare Valley special blend with a long lineage, this wine absolutely in the centre of that line. Cabernet provides the structure, malbec the fruit to fill the spaces. Retasting underlines the balance of a wine destined for a long future.'

'70/30 blend of Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. All into French oak. Most of us would be familiar with the red wines of Tim Adams. If you’ve liked any of his reds in the past, you will enjoy this release plenty. It’s absolutely typical, in a good way. Plenty of dark berried fruit, not too complicated, not simple either. Supple but a firm frame. Feels like cabernet, complete with herbal edges, but feels ripe and generous too. Minty. Floral. Clean. In a very good place.'
